Adoption is way expensive, the average agency/attorney adoption in the us is $30,000 - $40,000
The adoption tax credit allows us to write off part of the adoption cost, helping us be able to afford adoption. If it is not renewed, alot of families that are capable and can afford to take care of a child will not be able to adopt, because really who has $30 laying arround the house?? not us.
Please ready this post i ran in to.
There have seen lots of questions regarding the federal adoption credit set to expire in 2011. There are currently bills in both chambers of Congress that are attempting to not only extend the tax credit, but also to make it a permanent credit that won't needing voting on every two years.
I have contacted my Senators and Representatives and I encourage you to do so as well. I've also cross-posted this information on my Facebook page and think it is important that we attempt to draw attention to this important issue. Adoption, as well know, is cost prohibitive for many families who can afford to care for a child, but struggle to gather the upfront money needed for the actual adoption.
Don't know who to contact? Check out Contacting the Congress: A Citizen's Congressional Directory and it will identify your Congressperson.
Don't know what to say? Just ask them to support the "Adoption Tax Relief Guarantee Act of 2011" In the House it is HR 184 and in the Senate it is S82.
